Division
Biphasic
The Siesta model. Competitors utilize a core nocturnal block supplemented by a precise daytime prophylactic nap.
The Biphasic division aims to exploit the natural midday dip in circadian alertness. It is highly effective for cognitive performance but requires a lifestyle that accommodates a midday block.
Rules Specific to Biphasic
- Two Blocks: Competitors declare two blocks: a Core block (typically 5-6 hours) and a Nap block (typically 20 or 90 minutes).
- Nap Precision: The Nap block is heavily scrutinized. If you declare a 20-minute power nap (aiming for N2 only) and drop into N3 (deep sleep), you will suffer sleep inertia and score penalties.
- Scoring Weight: The Core block accounts for 75% of the daily score, the Nap accounts for 25%.
