Scoring Metrics
The WCS utilizes a proprietary algorithm weighing efficiency, architecture, and consistency. A perfect score is 100 points per cycle.
Base Calculation
The daily score is calculated via the following weighted formula:
Score = (E * 0.4) + (A * 0.4) + (C * 0.2) - Penalties
Where E = Efficiency Index, A = Architecture Quotient, C = Circadian Stability.
1. Efficiency Index (Max 40 pts)
Sleep Efficiency (SE) is total sleep time divided by total time in bed. To max this category, a competitor must achieve an SE > 92%.
- SE > 92% = 40 pts
- SE 85-91% = 30 pts
- SE 75-84% = 15 pts
- SE < 75% = 0 pts
2. Architecture Quotient (Max 40 pts)
Evaluates the ratio of restorative stages (N3 + REM) to total sleep time. The ideal target is >40% combined restorative sleep.
If REM + N3 > 40% and N3 > 15%, max points are awarded. Deductions occur for excessive N1 (light) sleep.
Penalties
Negative points are applied for behaviors that disrupt the macrocycle:
- WASO (Wake After Sleep Onset): -1 pt for every 5 minutes awake after initial onset (excluding allowed biphasic/polyphasic gaps).
- Onset Deviation: -5 pts for missing the declared sleep window by >15 minutes.
- Snooze Violation: Pressing a snooze button causes a sharp cortisol spike and fragmented architecture. -10 pts per snooze event detected via actigraphy.
