Approved Equipment

Competitors must utilize hardware capable of generating accurate hypnograms via actigraphy, optical heart rate, and temperature sensing.

Oura Ring Gen 3/4

Tier 1 Approval

The standard telemetry device for WCS. Form factor prevents disruption of sleep compared to wrist-worn devices. Excellent temperature sensors and reliable HRV tracking.

Data Export: Native API integration supported.

Whoop 4.0

Tier 1 Approval

Highly accurate cardiovascular tracking. Competitors must wear the device on the bicep band to prevent wrist-actigraphy false positives during micro-movements.

Data Export: Native API integration supported.

Apple Watch (Series 8+)

Tier 2 Approval

Acceptable, but the form factor is bulky for optimal sleep. WatchOS 9+ sleep staging algorithm is highly correlated with PSG (Polysomnography), but battery life risks missing data penalties.

Data Export: Requires Apple Health manual export.

Garmin (Various)

Conditional

Only specific high-end models (Epix, Fenix 7) with the latest Elevate V4/V5 sensors are permitted. Lower tier models have historically struggled with awake vs light sleep differentiation.
